Home health is the way to go.
The best non bedside nursing roles are educators, school nursing but low pay, and nursing consultant roles or nurse clinical advocates. I want to also include telephonic triage. I know right now there are spots for a telephone triage nurse at places like Fone Med and a place called Health Dialog. So many options!!!
Working for a county government in public health- maybe school health or for me it was case management if your county happens to have that position.
There are lots of jobs that they call private duty......meaning its taking care of one person,,,,, you go in at like 7 am get them out of bed and dress them and take them to the kitchen or dining room. You make meals for them... cleaning up the table and doing the dishes....after the meals.. sometimes they want the mail or to go watch tv or read....you just spend the day with them doing what they need... its very nice getting to know the person and helping them . You can do their laundry or feed the cat or dog .. or what ever they need....You can make good money and its more relaxing for you and the person!!! I love pvt duty...... esp now that im older too!!!Some like to take showers at night...others like them in the morning.... you help them with any care they may need.It really is a different side of nursing yet you keep your skills up and make good money too!!!! I have spent the last almost 20 yrs doing this with critical care babies and children and I Absolutelyyyyy Love This.. but you have to have worked in Peds with babies AND children and you also have to have good years with critical care pts...in ICU/CCU situations....BECAUSE ...you are at their homes many times all alone.... where parents may work of go out...but consider this end after you have learned all the special areas in the hospitals and have gotten years of experience with kids and babies..... I TOTALLY LOVE DOING THIS WORK.
