Just wondering are there any facilities in VA that hire entry level infusion nurses and willing to train? I have 7 months med/surg experience but it doesn't seem like enough when applying to places. Please advise.
I’m in Administration now, but when I worked at a INOVA and a MedStar hospital (2 jobs) many, many years ago, we have IV therapy nurses that do just IVs, insert PICC lines and other central lines. The positions/job description was taken off when hospital Medicare reimbursements became a problem during the time when rumors has it that Medicare is running out of money. Times are better now since then so the IV Nurses positions might be back already in those 2 Health Systems. Check them out. I got my Infusion Nursing experience through my 7 1/2 years working in Oncology which has the infusion center. On weekends, I manage the infusion center when the Regular Infusion Nurses are off.
Try carilion clinic, you can have the opportunity. Good luck
We are willing to train at AMIV.COM
That's a tough one. Try looking into teaching hospitals like VCU
I’m also experiencing the same issue with 7 months med/surg but difficulty finding a hospital that will hire me in CA 🥲
I am sure that with 7 month Med/Surg experienced you can apply or transfer to VA or any healthcare facility with pre-op.
I am sure Pre-op will train you.
In today’s nursing shortage and post pandemia new and old nurses don’t have to much hands on IV/ Port access skills. Try to look for a good pre op program. You have at least the Med/Surg exposure now. Go for it.
Check with U.SS. Oncology. They usually train nurses to do chemo infusions and their nurses work days, M-F. Good luck!
USAjobs.com is way to go. Good luck!
Go to USAjobs.gov and create an account. You can search for available VA positions and see what is being required. To be an infusion nurse, you need solid experience in obtaining vascular access, including implanted ports, and managing vascular devices. Also, know the infusion meds, side effects, management of those effects, and management of infiltrations and extravasations.
