Medical Telemetry stepdown units, what is your patient to RN ratio?
In Madison, WI: 4-5:1 days, 4-6:1 NOC.
At Valley Health System in Winchester, Virginia the ratio on our medical telemetry units you will have 5-6 patients. Most of the time on day shift you have 5 patients. It all depends on staffing for that day. If you are working nights, it may be 6 patients. I love medical telemetry and the ratios are doable.
It depends on what you are handling on a unit. If it is a heart transplant unit, you can have a ratio of 3 patients to 1 nurse.
If that is a medicine - tele unit, then you can have 4:1. In that, if you have an insulin drip or cardene drip or any such high risk medication, the nurse handling it will get 3 patients while others get 4.
I hope it is clear!
3-4 on days. 4 on nights. Ours is IMCU/PCU. Madison, WI
i wouls say 2:1 for every 50% of intake appointments for check-ins
1:3
3-5 depending on acuity
Before I retired 3years ago it was 6 to 1
