I am a licensed RN in PA and want to move and work in northern VA. How do I go about getting licensed to work in VA? How long does this process typically take?

Nurses will have the ability to practice in both their home state and other states that participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). You are eligible to obtain a multistate license if you:

Are a legal resident of a state included in the NLC.
Hold an active RN license that is in good standing.
Meet licensure requirements in your home state, in addition to licensure standards, and exhibit competency to practice within the RN scope if you reside in a remote state that does not participate in the NLC.
See a list of State Boards of Nursing (BON) with state fees and continuing education requirements and a list of nursing compact states.

PA just became a compact state back in Sept 2023. Change your PA to a compact license. Take a travel assignment if you can to VA. And in the meantime, what VA requirement for continuing education and how many CEUs. Get those done. Figure out where you get VA license from. Go to
dhp.virginia.gov
Also you need to go site Nursys as well. You need to pay a fee $30, that lets VA know your license originated from PA.

Don't do it. The VA board is ruthless.
