I am a recent grad wanting to switch to inpatient from an outpatient private practice after a year of working.. any advice for me with this transition?

October 19th, 2024

Working at private practice you learn the routine of that practice, each practice is different. Depending on what kind of office it is depends on skills you keep up with. For example, it’s a new grad I started off at a level one trauma emergency department. I learned and became comfortable with everything from foleys, continuous bladder irrigation, inserting ivs etc. after a year, I couldn’t do night shift anymore so I found a job at a private plastic surgery office in pacu. I give iv pain meds in pacu and assist the MD in post op care such as dressing changes , discontinuing jp drains. I had the opportunity to perform a straight Cath on a post of recovery patient who was unable to void post surgery. I failed miserably. Tried twice. Had to have surgical tech assist me. It depends on where u came from how u started to what type of work you’ll transfer into in inpatient. I hope this sort of helped and whatever you do in the future remeber you passed ur nclex the hardest exam ever !! You’ll do great!
