What is the STRANGEST reason a diabetic patient has given you for a high blood glucose level?
Not thinking they are diabetic though their blood sugar is above 500
I don't cover my high sugars unless its over 400. I don't use that dumb sliding scale it's pointless.

If they are a PD patient on Icodextrin, certain glucometers can read very high, and you need a lab drawn sample.
If they are a PD patient on Icodextrin (the purple bag), the glucometer can read very out of range. There needs to be a lab confirmation to the point that they are to have a MedicAlert status.

There are no strange reasons. Anything and everything can cause a blood sugar to go high.
I used to keep a list of “is this because of diabetes?” questions that patients would ask. Had some very funny ones. People want to blame diabetes for everything
I work in pediatrics (type 1 diabetes mainly)… we also got a LOT of explanations for why there are no blood sugars on the meter download. “My dog ate the meter!!”
