What are my responsibilities as the staff nurse? What are they as charge nurse?
See previous answer. That is correct. However some hospitals require the charge nurse to additionally have their own patients.
working in rehabilitation is great! It is a very holistic form of nursing. In addition to the usual nurse responsibilities such as assessment, medication administration, IV's, trachs, tube feedings, wound care and so on, you will be involved in teaching the patient and family how to do these things at home, as well as education about their medical condition and adaption to their new situation (post stroke, for example). You are part of the interdisciplinary team which includes physicans, therapists (physical, occupation, speech, recreation), and case managers.
As a charge nurse, you are responsible for creating patient assignments for the staff, troubleshooting complaints, ensuring appropriate staffing, working with admissions and discharges for smooth flow, helping out as necessary on the floor and being a resource to the staff.

When I'm charge nurse I have patients besides helping my floor nurses when needed and set up the next night's schedule among other administrative duties required.
My responsibilities are to carry out the orders from the care plan by,
1. Following it to the best of my ability the PT/OT/ST schedules,
2. Getting the patients ready on time for their daily rehab sessions,
3. Reporting any change in their health status to the PT/OT/ST so their can adjust their schedules,
4. Informing the patients of any changes that may affect them and their schedules, and
5. Recording accurate information and assessment/teaching on the patients' charts.
Nurses have to work around the PT/OT/ST sessions in order to keep up with the patient's schedule. Where I used to work the nurses and therapists had a great rapport with the patients who were willing to work simultaneously with the rest of the team because they were eager to go home.
The nurse practice act is your go to document. Facility protocol and procedures help. What a reasonable and prudent nurse would do is always helpful. Good luck
I worked at Moss Rehab for 10 years. Rehab is very rewarding. You help people to move back to the life they had before they got sick. Nurses have the same responsibilities as on other units. Meds, treatments, assessments, ect. however you keep up with where they are at in rehab when they come back to the floor. Example, if they came in wheelchair bound but now walk with a walker, you make sure they use the walker back in their room as well. Lots of teaching involved.
As a staff nurse you’re responsible for your assignments are the floor which could be anywhere from 20 Subacute patient all the way to 34 long-term care as a staff nurse you’re responsible for giving their medication‘s reviewing labs contacting the doctor on the patient’s behalf and answering to family members. Each building and each company will have different duties for a Charge Nurse but for the most part you’re responsible for all the medication deliveries you’re responsible for all your nurses on the floor and making sure you’re helping them with whatever they need whether that’s being a third-party in relaying messages to and from the doctor to and from the lab or to and from family members you’re also responsible to run and be in charge of any codes that happen in the building as well as any contact with police or fire department you are the manager in the building until you leave at the end of your shift everything will come to you some buildings you are responsible for taking a cart and an assignment if a nurse calls off others you’ll be responsible for all the new admissions coming into the building and making sure that their meds come in and their orders are placed correctly so it varies from building to building
