Has anyone had a tough time adjusting to night shift/rotating shift(Every 6 weeks)? No matter how hard I try I'm always tired and don't adjust like my coworkers have. It's causing me to contemplate finding a day position outside of the NICU
Even though I'm recently retired, I can honestly tell you that I personally think rotating shifts every 6 weeks is Exhausting and unhealthy! I did that for a very short term earlier in my career. Your body just barely has time to adjust to one time schedule when it's time to change it up again. They were pretty short staffed, and I just said that if I couldn't get a regular predictable schedule ASAP, I would be looking elsewhere. They finally changed from that model! I'd find another unit or facility that does not do this. Your health is more important, and this type of scheduling is dangerous not only for you, but your patients as well since it seriously affects consistency and it's also a very real possibility of it affecting your energy and ability to be sharp mentally, which could end up hurting someone. I literally find this to be unsafe on all levels! If I had to go back to work, there is no way in Hell I would accept a position like that! To me, that's a facility that cares more about filling places than valuing their work force. No Thank you!
