I cannot speak for Los Angeles because I live in Michigan. In Michigan we hire many new grads into psychiatric positions. Most definitely there are challenges in psychiatric just there are challenges in any part of nursing however, I have met many nurses who knew out the gate what type of nursing they wanted. I have friend who has spent her entire 40-year nursing career delivering babies, I work with many nurses who never done anything but psych. I did the gamut of everything, go where your passion is this will give you the greatest satisfaction. There's never a dull moment in psych.
