What qualities do you believe are essential for a nurse leader to possess?

Effective nurse leaders are authentic, empathetic, good at listening and critical thinking. It is also beneficial for a nurse leader to have direct patient care experience in the area they choose to lead as well as sound judgement. Leadership is not for everyone and not for those who are egocentric. Leaders serve others, rather than have others serve them. The purpose of a leader is to take care of the people who care for others.
