The doctor I’m working for is literally spying on me! Listening to my phone calls to patients and watching me on camera. I don’t know what I’ve done to make her be this way. I do my job to the best of my abilities. Help!
I hope I can be a light of this without coming across as insensitive. I had an instructor (in my first clinical experience) who did something similar like this and it would not only force me to self discipline my own work but also made me feel more confident in myself at the end of the semester after having a final evaluation on the last day, and she said to me that not only I did a very good job in my work but that she wished me luck on my future and told me that I would be a great Nurse in the future. I took all of that fear and without knowing, turned into self determination for myself if it wasn’t for her. I hope this helps in any way. Keep doing the best you do and don’t let it stop your progress. Stay blessed
First be sure you have proof incontrovertible of her spying. It has to be beyond just your own suspicions and absolutely provable. Then ask for a private conference at the end of the day when patient care will not interfere or break trains of thought, and CALMLY and factually say something along the lines of noticing she is "micromanaging" you. Do NOT call it spying. Say you are aware of this 'micromanagement because of..... (XYZ proofs), and wonder why you have merited such close observation and apparent lack of her trust. Then let her speak. Perhaps it's not you but someone else in the office she wants watched closely for whatever reason she may have. If it's you, than ask - again CALMLY - what led her to her reaction. There may be a misunderstanding that can be ironed out here, or perhaps she is simply invasive and a control freak. Either way, you must remain calm and deliberate and use factual ONLY in this, not feelings. If it turns out she's just into control, consider seeking employment elsewhere. There are physicians who will trust you and appreciate what you bring to a practice.
