We should talk about how low nursing pay is with the current inflation climate and cost of living and what nursing opportunities we’ve come across that actually have decent pays!
Unions are not the answer. It takes the control away from Nurses. STOP STOP settling for less than $50-$60 an hour regardless of what additional benefits are offered. UNLESS, the what to toss in a home and car that’s totally paid off and yours to keep!
we aren’t making but a few dollars more than the entry level employees that do not have a college degree or experience.
By even one of us agreeing to low wages we are hurting our collective group. Heck, there are days that $150 hour wouldn’t be enough pay for what we do.
Nurses are a must and the heart of every medical structure. We aren’t we treating ourselves as such?
Yes….I’m from NY but now live in Florida…. It’s like slave labor here… very low pay for the work expected…. Just ridiculous……. Insulting
I just moved to Florida from Texas and the pay here is ridiculously low in relation to the cost of living. I don’t see how people keep nurses. The amount of work expected of the nurse is not in proportion to the pay. I think that all of nursing needs a pay evaluation and especially in Florida. I’m going back to Texas asap!
Back in the day people used to strike in demanding fair wages to compensate for inflation and benefits, because let’s not be quiet against how terrible our benefits have gotten too. I am working for 3hours of earned PTO every 2 weeks, that’s 10 days a year to be sick, go on a vacation, my kids to be, Drs appointments. ETC. nationwide it is a disgrace!
I got .50 cents. I have been a nurse for 19 years and work in a level 1 trauma in the O.R. With 30% inflation that was extremely underwhelming. In addition to this, this particular hospital has expanded down the whole block just about, so clearly, the money is not missing there. The excuse for the minimal raise was that no one received it so it is what it is. Awful, makes me really rethink my career choice and if it is worth it. All the responsibilities for what? .50 cents.
The Stress, the Sacrifice ,emotional and physical pains that we do everyday u cant put a price on it....right now here in michigan uts $45 to $50/ hr for Rn with more than 10 years if experience is an Insult especially during Covid times!Hope Government address that and since theyre calling us as HEALTH HEROES!
It’s important that we remain humble to permanent stuff. It’s ok to explain that on the surface it looks like travel RNs make a lot but it’s not so because often we are without PTO and other benefits, we pay for additional housing and maintain our residence as well. We don’t make what the hospitals actually pay the Agency.
Additionally, their hospital doesn’t have to worry about providing education, compliance, benefits, raises,Ect. It pretty much is a wash and maybe a better deal for the hospital in the end.
I suspect like every industry, hospitals will turn to agency nurses more to avoid a lot of headaches…work comp, employee heath and compliance,Ect.
The market is oversaturated already by the huge number of travel agencies that have popped up. These two factors have drove travel pay way down.
Most hospitals must use agency at this point..it’s important that we keep our hourly and stipend rates up by not accepting less than our worth.
It looks like agency nursing has decreased its wages for assignments. Nurses should not be accepting anything less than $50-60 hour
It's obvious that the health care workers are being taking for granted for a very long time, during the pandemic, the Health care worker, Nurses, specially, were called heroes, just like the soldiers on the field, however, just like soldiers coming back home, now ignore by everyone. Many nurses had moved on, leaving huge holes in the field, lack of staffing and overload of work without being properly compensate is depressing. The pay has not move according to the degree of inflation, neither to the degree of overload and multitasking require to provide acceptable care at least, when it should be excellent care, we are far from that. The reality is that most monies are coming from federal and state control agencies and they dictate the amount of dollars that can be use by different institutions, being hospitals CEO's the ones that absorbed the most of it. Unfair, absolutely YES.
I just started my first traveling assignment. Worked for Five years for a state organization that paid really good but the toxicity was unbelievable. A month before I a graduate from PMHNP I decided to start traveling and I can’t imagine how much money I’m
Making now and especially in my pocket. Staff nurse got shitty pay and treatment/
It’s so bad for how much nurses working in hospitals and all critical care facilities
We should all have to be union members and we can control our payroll
Please most patients are above average weight with all heavy work and critical care and services all nurses should be paid for their work and care rightfully
Unions are not the answer
Right now, the trend is 'All-inclusive rates' These agencies are trying to get out of lodging, car and flights (so expensive). Don't fall for the 'All inclusive' stuff. They get paid 'Big' commissions for placing us.
10 years as an RN, working full-time ER at ShorePoint Health in southwest FL and I’m only making $35.94/hr. 🙄
Select Specialty Hospital offers PRN at $50/hr, but it’s basically an LTAC/post-ICU care

I agree with Lan Tran’s statement. I wish I went into travel nursing instead of the USAF back in 1995. We had them, but not many so perhaps that is why I did not research this avenue. Currently travel nursing allows RNs to work 8 months or less if desired and get more pay than a staff nurse in hospitals.
I was able to retire a bit early, so I am not working anymore secondary to working hard when younger as well as some other positive financial factors in my life. However if I had a do over I would definitely work as a traveler, because of so many pros...if you don’t like the environment/culture one knows it is only the contracted time. One also does not need to be involved in the politics..so nice! If one likes it, usually can continue with a subsequent contract. Win win situation!!
I've been in LTAC for 9 years PRN and making 40 an hour. It's not enough. If you do the math it really makes us make less than minimum wage.
Nurses quit taking travel jobs at rates which get everyone involved paid whilw you are responsible for care. If you don't you will continue to degrade nursing. Work local per diem jobs instead.
Serious problem is that nurses in current positions in hospitals are not getting raises or incentive bonuses. Instead, short-sighted management is offering higher starting pay and sign-on bonuses, which attract new RNs for 1 or 2 years then they go somewhere else. The loyal, local nurses are neglected pay-wise, and are expected to train the new nurses and pick up the slack when the facility is short-staffed.
