Feeling super unhappy as an inpatient RN (PACU), looking for something from home or maybe outpatient. Truly just want to go to work and not dread every single day. Ideas? Areas?
Please consider looking at Telephone Triage. They are remote positions. We have positions in WI and IL now, but can live in any Compact state. I think the position is on Indeed.
You could also try going into home health (something different every day), health department positions, travel nursing, or legal nurse consulting. Travel nursing will do a lot for your knowledge base and it will also build your confidence. Travel nursing is a good field right now, and you may even find jobs through a travel nurse company that are right in your local area....fabulous pay and you still get to sleep in your own bed every night (BONUS!!). The work-from-home option is great too; telephonic triage nurses and case management are in high demand right now, but may require you to get certified first.
It sounds like you may be suffering from burnout....are you doing anything consistently for self-care? How are you sleeping? How is your diet? What do you do to relax? Sometimes when things feel like they are unmanageable it is tempting to think that changing jobs is the answer and then we find out the hard way that changing jobs has its own set of stress-inducing baggage as well, like 1) you are once again the "new kid" who has to prove herself to a bunch of people who may view her as a threat 2) there is a whole new set of skills to master 3) there is a possibility that you may find the new job just as stressful as the job you left.
It might help you to talk to someone about what you are feeling and thinking.....might make things a bit clearer for you. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best....a job that you love and a chance to feel like you are making a positive difference in peoples' lives. Nursing isn't for sissies, and longevity in the field requires us to make some healthy (sometimes survival-mode) choices....putting yourself first in terms of daily self-care is necessary. Good luck!!
I don’t have an answer but I was wondering if you found anything out? It’s so hard trying to get in this field,I’m going thru this as we speak.
Do not lock your self in PACU unit. Nursing is wide specialty. Has MS, Tell, ICU, OR, ER, outpatient & many more. Find a different unit where you can feel more comfortable & happy to work at. Good luck clique.
The PACU is The Post Anaesthesia Cure Unit is (a critical care unit), where the patient's vital signs are closely observed, pain management begins, and fluids are given. The nursing staff is skilled in recognizing and managing problems in patients after receiving anesthesia. The PACU is under the direction of the Department of Anesthesiology. For all these reasons and really you need to rest, ask for a leave according to the labor law and the direction will appoint another nurse (RN), and go to rest, Thank you.!
Yes.
Outpatient surgical centers are good areas to work in.
Case management jobs are pretty prevalent, look into that.
Look for an at home job with UnitedHealthcare or another insurance company.
What is it that you don’t like like about PACU?
