Do you tailor your patient education to different learning styles?

It is very important to know your patients learning style and literacy level. Anxiety narrows perception and patients become easily overwhelmed. I alway include the inquiry question (how do you learn best ?)in my admission assessment. Education and readiness to learn begins upon admission. Knowing learning styles enables the nurse to use a variation of teaching tools (audio, visual, hands on demonstration, active participation, written information, Teach back) and other departmental expert knowledge if necessary to provide comprehensive education to patients and family members involved in care.
