how do you get a job after 32 years,im 53, and these magnet hospitals want me to get a BSN??? what happened to grandfathered in, and 20% non-BSN...Im so sad:{
It’s not just the BSN. It’s your age and your experience level. Ageism is alive and well in healthcare.
smaller community hospitals do not require a BSN.
go to western governors university and get your BSN. you'll be done in a 1 1/2 yr.
Grandfathered in is considered their staff that been there for years. However, even magnet hospitals can still hire LPN’s and non- BSN nurses and still be considered magnet. The magnet association allows for so many of non-BSN nurses. The shortage of nurses you would think that magnet would be more understanding and hospitals would put patient care before a label of perfection. However, not all hospitals require BSN and smaller hospitals in small towns don’t and they pay more without the stress. Remember you are the catch they need you more.
I went back after over 20 years off, was an LPN, got my RN AD, then never worked as one. I ended up taking a 3 week refresher course, two weeks was book work, 1 week on floor. Had no trouble getting job. I think today any hospital will take you if you tell them you are going to work toward your BSN.
