Why does it feel like its hard to find a new job as a new grad especially as an ADN in NJ? I applied new grad jobs and as well as regular jobs at a hospital, and no response, or they only stopped my application due to my ADN. BSN is in progress...

Congratulations on your ADN and working towards your BSN. I don't know why hospitals aren't hiring new grads. I work at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA and we hire new grads, and they attend a Nurse Residency Program during their first year. We would love to have you or any other new grad to work with us. I am the Nurse Onboarding Specialist at our hospital. Keep searching! You will get something soon. Also, rather you have your ADN or BSN will not define who you are as a nurse. I started as an LPN, then I obtained my associates degree, and I now have my BSN.

Keep applying, keep moving forward. There’s going to be so much in life that will be hard so accept that fact. You made it through nursing school for God sake.

Congratulations on graduating as an RN and BSN in progress. Offer to work Nights and Every Weekend plus Every Holiday. That’s exactly what I did. You may not have any experience. That’s ok.Relocate if you have to. Get a solid years experience in Med/Surg. That’s what I did. Then I went to Critical Care. I even did Traveling Nursing in California where the staffing ratios are fabulous. You’ll find a job. Remember to research the facilities. Smile and be enthusiastic at your interviews. Tell them why they’d be lucky to get you. Keep telling them how you’re furthering your education with the goal of achieving a Masters or Doctorate. Lean forward. Be confident. Reiterate how you’d be willing to work other shifts too if needed because of staffing shortages. Best wishes. Surgical Trauma RNMSN 40 years experience. I’m currently in Law School.

Do not get frustrated. Happens sometimes. Look at Fresenius dialysis jobs. They hire new grads and trained them. If you provide me your email I can make a referral. I hope you get a job soon! Take a look here...

For the most part, prospective employers tend to cut down on expenses. Being a new grad would mean needing a preceptor. With that in mind, employers have to pay you for training as well as your preceptor making them spend more money.

Most NJ and NYC hospitals are magnet and don’t hire ADNs. Its just what it is… nursing lobby making nursing worse for nurses since day one.
