Most base pay in NYC is about 78 to 86k ayear but that doesn't include differential pay such a more the higher the degree, shift differential and certification differential. Then there is experience differential too. Thus a new grad could boost that salary to 90k or better and experienced nurse over 100k. It also depends on where you work. Manhattan is the highest with the other boros slightly less. Not all hospitals are union, I would recommend a union hospital. NY is right behind California in pay. I was at about 160k when I retired in 2019.
The $80-100K salary would be for New York CITY area, maybe Long Island and downstate. Starting pay in other areas of NYS can range from the $50s to 60s, depending on specialty.
Union or non-union?
Hospital or Skilled Nursing Facility
Hospital pay depends on experience and department
Lets say under 5 years experience with a BSN and you work in telemetry
Starts at 55-60/hr, the more experience the higher the pay, ICU/ER/OR and Cath Lab pay more
I have been retired for five yrs. The starting salary is variable. Depends on education, previous experience as an RN. Most of the hospitals are Union negotiated. NYSNA our professional org negotiates NYC (HHC) hospitals but try to include salaries of non union high and low paying RN S so it becomes averaged. I venture a guess at least $120,000
Depending on the type of job (nursing home, hospital, school nurse, clinic etc) it can usually range from about 80k-100k
