Why is it, after 50.plus years ,and continued passion and experience as R.N., there is no place for older very qualified nurses that can be valuable for limited per diem work and would be helpful to workplace?

Have you thought about clinical instruction?

Because age discrimination is alive & well in US “healthcare”. I moved to Denver 6 years ago (59 yo) & despite great experience & fabulous letters of reference, I had no luck in the hospital arena.. I started home health & happy to be away from institutions which prioritize hoop jumping over patient care!

Do you think it has something to do with pay????my wife in the same situation, BSN RN with a diploma in computer science over 7yrs experience: admission nurse, wound care, supervisor, floor etc but she started in nursing home and wants to go into her passion ER/OR nursing, licensed in Nv and TX, maybe it has something to do with racial quota he he stay safe nurses

It depends on the job you are in. Bedside nursing can be taxing after age 50, but young 50 year olds can do it.
I worked as a health care manager until I was 70. I also did some home visits, and clinic type visits. I can still do them, but I retired. Now I am bored. May look for teaching position or mentoring.

In CO I did not notice this as I am 66. I retired as I Don't have the patience for ignorant people or the lack of concern shown by their pcp. Try home health or a doctor's office(I worked at a dr's office and it was nice til it wasn't). I wish you luck as I cannot stand the thought of working as a nurse again.

I agree with Jennifer. Everyone loves an agency nurse because they don’t have to pay benefits. I loved my agency jobs because no one drug me into the hospital politics. I was 61 when I had to quit my job. No one would hire me but I had tons of agency contracts open to me.

I have 40 plus years of Nursing as an RN. Five years ago I started working for an agency, per diem I have as much work available to me as I want and am accepted every where I work at. Have you tried working for an Agency before?
