What is a Magnet Hospital? I am from Canada and have never worked in the US before and I am just now hearing the term.

The ANCC evaluates a hospital using strict criteria.
The hospital who applied for consideration must meet 14 marks. This is not an easy task. In a nutshell,
If you are awarded Magnet status you are held to a higher standard of Nursing excellence. You employ and grow exemplary staff. Magnet status highlights an environment that supports delivery of excellence in patient care, staff nurse involvement in evidence-based practice, and decision making in support of optimal patient outcomes. For nurses, this status brings increased engagement, collaboration, autonomy to the bedside. Recertification occurs every four years. Not all who apply to be considered a Magnet hospital pass the test on the first try.
