What are some ways to provide emotional support and comfort to patients and families during the surgical process?

Take the time to listen. Explain the process of what you’re doing and what’s next. Encourage questions and when you can, go that extra mile. I’ve seen anxious patients calm because their RN will go check on the spouse or family members in waiting room. Ask them about their hobbies, plans for weekend (distraction ). Not to sound cheesy but sincerity and compassion go a long way. People want connections in stressful situations.

The fact that you’re asking such a question tells me you are already excellent caregiver and advocate for your patients.
