How do I move into a new specialty? I am a postpartum nurse but I want to get into the OR space. Any suggestions?

What I did when I wanted to get into a different area what is to approach the manager of the department and say listen this is what I do, is it possible to join your team and maybe work one day a week to see how I would like it and get trained if I can transfer within the hospital setting where you work.

It's important to do research on the new job that you're interested in. That way you establish your position in that hospital you can let them know you're not pleased with it and you'd like to perhaps transfer intra-hospital to another department if the job comes up and you can always tell them I do not have experience in this position but I would like to learn. That's what I did when I went from trauma to Cath Lab, and PACU. I'm from Texas it wasn't that difficult if you already have a license to get another one. It is actually a compact state which is nice. Good luck with your job hunting if you need any either assistance you let just reach out.
Cheers

I would suggest looking for an organization that would be willing to place you in a OR residency program. You may even find one offering a sign on bonus. In addition, you can check if your current employer has this type of program to join.

Make an appointment with the charge nurse of OR and ask what the specific skill set and training requires. Some hospitals are willing to train for the OR and others are not.
