Have my RN license for 9 years. Never worked as a nurse d/t uncontrollable life circumstances . Seeking non-bedside nursing due to my age and being a full time caregiver to my elderly mom with dementia. I don’t know where to start.

It sounds like you need something remote. Here are my ideas:
1. Look at admission coordinator positions for nursing homes-offer yourself as an intern to get experience if you need to
2. Reach out to clinics in the area for prior authorizations and appointment scheduling. This might not pay a lot but once you have experience with prior authorization it will open up jobs in insurances or other places that do utilization management
3. Look into getting certified as a medical coder- this is usually a short program and is beneficial into breaking into hospitals or other places needing documentation review. Also an excellent step on the road to case management
4. You may want to look into getting a BA in Nursing informatics which involves working with the medical chart. These are also less physical positions. Knowing more about electronic charting is a good way to combat the predisposition some employers may have that “more mature” nurses cant understand computers.
5. If you know anyone with any kind of healthcare experience - ask them for help and use them as a reference!
Good luck to you and kudos for caring for your mom.
