Nursing informatics in some areas need a higher level of degree but not all places are that way. In informatics you need to assess and report on patients and if you do not have the fundamental assessment skills needed you will not cut it. Sometimes the clinical questions from doctors can be difficult. You have to work well with patients, and staff and be a team player to be in this position. You need to be able to navigate EPIC or PCS to manage patients safely. Below is just the IT stuff needed.

Talk to your manager. I will not recommend Masters degree borrowing another large amount of student loan. Rather a certification might be beneficial. After you have secured the job you can go for masters degree if it is a requirement.

Nursing has so many types of jobs out in numerous fields from schools, to industrial to urgent care to teaching. You need med Surg experience to gain more knowledge to prepare yourself for another role that is not at the bedside. Try approaching med Surg for a challenging point and make a career plan to find another position. Maybe you would do better in an MDS role, triage nursing, or assisted living where more people are mobile.
