I've been an LPN for 15yrs. I recently passed the NCLEX on the 1st try. I am now a 50yo RN. I want more of soft nursing, outpatient, clinic, cath lab, OR w/no wknds/holidays and not the typical Med Surg floor. Why the struggle?

OR is off w/e but you have to take call on w/e. I've been left alone for the whole week end to recover seriously ill patients by myself . Scary stuff. I worked PACU 15 years and it happened in the 2 hospitals that I worked. How about out patient surgery center. Not a lot of openings, not much staff turnover, Good luck!
I was a 20 year LPN and got my RN at 58 yrs of age. I worked the floor for 1 yr 6 months. As a new RN you must earn you stripes and work the floor before going to a soft job. It helps you with transition from LPN to RN. It helped me immensely. I am now a Radiation Oncology nurse specializing in Gamma Knife procedures. A very soft job.
CONGRATS ON PASSING THE NCLEX. I HAVE BEEN AN LPN FOR 22 YEARS. 7 MONTHS AS AN RN AND I'M LOVING IT.
Not cath lab... On call weekends. Worked lots of hours . Wasn't a "soft nursing"

How about School Health-you work when school is in session, but have to find something in the summer when school is out. how about Utilization Review at the hospital or a health insurance organization?
Congrats on passing the NCLEX! Should not be a struggle to find a place in an outpatient surgery center. I would highly recommend a place that performs cataract surgeries (they're quick- with prepping, the procedure, and recovery) but so easy. Also an endoscopy center would be simple. What struggles are you having? Maybe your location?

I have found a balance now, thank God. I do assisted living along with psych-crisis/detox nursing. I work when I want and I am happy with my pay. I never heard back from Incredible Health for ANY jobs, but kudos to those who have. The cath lab wasn't open on weekends, so it would have worked. The person who was hired in my place couldn't pass the drug test, I heard. It's fine now because I am extremely happy with my current position.
