You can always call a wound care center and see if they would let you come observe a few days. There are also tons of CEUs you can take online that will teach you what to do for certain wounds.

Since you are a new grad, you can get experience working with home health or hospice. Unfortunately, wound care is different between home health and hospice and an actual wound care company. I am a wound care nurse and I can tell you the wound care that we do is more expensive than what I do working in home health or Hospice. If you want to start with just basic, Hospice is the way to go because you’re not typically providing wound care to heal the wound you’re just trying to manage the wound until the patient passes. In-home health. We are trying to heal the wound however, I’ve noticed the care provided. I’m nurse to nurse. It should be the same across the board however, nurses in home health, rush their visits to get in and get out which compromise wound healing. I myself take my time whether I’m in home health, hospice, or my wound care company because I want to see these wounds make progress. Majority of my experience in wound care came from hospice. I was a hospice nurse for eight years and learned a lot about wound care but now I am a full-time wound care LPN supervisor, but I also work home health and hospice per diem.
You can get certification, but in my experience, observation from someone who knows the basics is the best way to learn.
