Yes if you are focusing on patient care you know how important sleep and rest is for parents especially nursing moms who need their milk supply. Changing infant is good time for patient teaching as well

I was on a baby friendly unit which did not have a nursery, babies stayed with mom at all times. As a rule, if I examine your baby or am doing any testing, and I find a dirty diaper, I change it. If I'm in the room and Mom is alone and I see baby needs a change, I'll do it if I have time (which would be most of the time.) We were all trained in lactation support as well, so we helped the moms when they needed assistance. Each nurse is different, but I did not consistently help one patient feed and change her baby all day.

Absolutely! You can a lot of assessing of the babies during that time, as well as teaching of parents as needed.
