Has any one been able to work Labor and Delivery, Day shift as a new grad. I am passionate of going into this specialty but they keep offering night shift and I am not able to do night shift. What can I do?
As a Manager of a Mathernal Child Center (MCC), it is improbable for a recent graduate to secure a day shift position in Labor and Delivery (L&D); nevertheless, it is advisable to pursue this possibility. For those aspiring to work in obstetrics, it is recommended to remain open to both day and night shifts in order to expand employment opportunities.
When I first started in L&D it was on the afternoon shift, which aren't there anymore. I had several years of Med Surg at the time. When I switched to another hospital I had 20+ years of L&D experience and I had to take a night shift job. You may have to take a part time job or be willing to move.
I know people who have. I am actually interviewing with a hospital that has L&D days available, here in the central valley.
