I’ve been retired for 15 years and want to start working as a nurse again. What is the best pathway to build resume/prove knowledge and get a job? Nurse recruiters, residency programs will not even call me back.
I am having the same problem! Maybe they call this ageism? Many of us older RNs have to return to the workforce due to unprecedented inflation. It is unfortunate, to say the least. I have over 20 years of ER experience, plus took a course in medical coding. Now cannot get a job even with that since they ALL want prior coding experience. They don't even care if we are RNs to substitute for some of that experience! What a shame!
There are RN Refresher courses at many community colleges that can get you back into the wing of nursing care. This shows commitment to the profession and wanting to update your skills. Many things have changed in the last 15 years not the least of which is the electronic patient record. Good luck!
Have you thought about applying for a school nurse substitute position?
