What's the hardest illness you have witnessed a patient have?

October 28th, 2024

Young woman on heart transplant list deemed no longer candidate, to depressed, suicidal. Transferred to my pulmonary unit 6 pm on Fri night.

I called transplant service and asked if it was approved to do this, she didn't know any staff, given devastating notice and no thought about treating her mental situation.

She declined within 5 days and passed away with her boyfriend holding her hand. She was then taken to OR where her organs were harvested for other transplant patients.

Definitely Endometrial cancer. My patient was in such misery it was so sad my heart ached for her. I prayed everyday that her misery would end. The cancer ate her flesh from the inside, out. The smell was horrendous. She moaned with any little touch. Morphine and Dilaudid did NOT help her pain.
