Looking to transition to remote nursing. I have 18 years bedside experience. Any options?
Hello. Have you looked into nurse triage positions over phone? I work for a company called Accolade, and it'll be 2 years for me in April. We have several different nursing specialties including General medical nurses, maternity nurses, Behavioral Health nurses like myself, musculoskeletal nurses, and oncology nurses. There are other places like United Healthcare, but I've heard those are not as desirable, and I've only been a nurse for 11 years. If you do decide to apply please tell them that Kesha sent you so that I can get a referral bonus.
There is so much work life balance, and as a matter of fact I totally forgot that my 7-year-old is out of school today, but thankfully I work from home. In any case, I bid you good luck.
Check health insurance companies. Some will hire no experience Nurse Case Managers.
Hello,
Search for “Revenue Integrity Nurse Auditor” positions. You may find open positions in hospital corporate offices, Revenue Cycle solutions companies, and consulting firms. A Nurse Auditor will utilize clinical skills to interpret clinical documentation while comparing the accuracy of billed charges. This position will allow you to increase hospital revenue by identifying under charges and remain compliant by eliminating overcharges. You will become very familiar with CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 PCS, ICD-10 Diagnosis, DRG, and other billing codes. Coding certification not required but recommended. Also, CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) Specialist and Nursing Informatics are in demand and are also remote.
All the best,
Tasha
Also, I suggest looking into starting with a recruiter. That's how I got my foot in the door here at my current position, and we pretty much provide the member services through our clients health plans. However, the role that we nurses play is mainly triaging, hoping to find Healthcare Providers and resources that are with the network for our clients, and providing education. We do have care plans, and we do get involved with the insurance side, but not very much as we have health assistance that do that mainly. With your experience, recruiters will be knocking down your door and they will never leave you alone if you really want to transition. I don't even think you need luck with your experience.
Phone advice nurse for hospital or companies
When physical disability prohibited my continued bedside nursing, I went into telephone triage my last 22 years before retiring. I have worked in both call centers and from home. Many remote jobs are available with nurse advice and triage companies. Good luck!
You might investigate travel nursing at Indian Health Service. As an example there's a nice hospital at Ft Defiance and in Showlow.
