How much experience is required for msn after bsn? Can I do MD after BSN?

July 28th, 2024

Unfortunately there are many programs that no longer require a period of experience before admission into a MSN program.

Personally, I feel what sets advanced practice roles, such as NPs, apart from other provider roles is our amount of bedside experience (nurses usually log more when years of experience prior to formal clinic hours is accounted).

This is especially important in the ongoing debate between the role of a physician and nurse practitioner when bodies (such as the AMA) open with the largest difference between the roles is the amount of patient hours. They argue a physician does X years of patient care in their program, but conviently forgets an NP generally has X years of RN experience prior to starting additional NP program clinicals.

In my opinion, going straight through waters down the value of an NP. But short answer is yes, there are programs that permit it.
