Can I work in the ICU as a new grad with an ADN? What hospitals in NYC are willing to accept ADN new grads currently?
Why question yourself . . . Do it . . . the sky is your limit when it comes to caring for others . . . I am thinking caring for others is why you chose nursing . . . many hospital systems offer educational programs that can get you started and before you know it, you'll become an ICU nurse . . . be confident . . . and find what you want . . . you are a nurse and a registered one . . . so go forth and find your path to excellent nursing car . . . I think NYC HHC are taking ADN with the intention to enroll in BSN upon hire. It may not be ICU right away but will get you in the door. You can double check. Hope this helps, all the best.
As a RN in NYC you will find it hard to obtain a job let alone a specialty,in most hospitals with just an ADN. Most hospitals in NYC want a BSN and they are getting it. You might try a nursing home setting and work on obtaining the BSN while working, think online courses such as Chamberlain. Most jobs have benefits that pay all or part of ongoing education. Any part that isn't covered can be a deduction on your taxes. Once you have the BSN you will be able to transition to a hospital and may find that your experience will allow you to obtain a specialty area such as ICU. Years back there were jobs open to every degree holder but it has changed.
