Currently I work in corrections as a chronic care ADON, for 3 years. I’m interested in the ER / ICU but doubting myself. Any suggestions!
Use on present experience and transfer it to the ER/ ICU . Every nurse has doubts and concerns. You have more skills than you think. Use any skills from your prior job and grow into new work environment slowly but confidently . Your work in corrections can really help you in certain ER situations Good Luck and safe
Good ICU nurses are needed. Most hospitals offer preceptorships. Should be at least 3-months. It should include a critical care course, as well. If you’ll be flexible as to the shift you’ll work (nights) you can probably snag a position.
Best wishes. Nothing like critical care!!!
Then move to PACU bcz, it too, is critical care but you only stabilize the patient, you don’t have to fix them!
Or go back to school for CRNA…also a great gig!
