Do you know any hospital that hires international students with OPT visa? I will graduate in May with an associate RN license. Please share any tips for getting RN jobs in NY or NJ.

The VA hospital hires foreign nurses, or used to(fyi haven’t worked in VA system in 20+yrs), also takes any license for all VA’s. IE California nurses ok in rest of 49states.

I think if you contact one of the follow:
1.)State board of Nurses as they set many of standards

2.) go to search on state government website and search:
"United States associate graduate degree looking for hospital hiring international students with OPT visa."
3.) Have you asked the school Registrar. Often they have that information for the graduates.
4.) contact each the state's nurses' associations career center.

Hi! I myself i was an international student and was hired after having passed the NCLEX while on OPT. So the answer is yes, any company (in this case, any hospital) will hire you as long as you can provide proof of work authorization. However, be mindful that your OPT is only valid for a year. So that said, unless your company is willing to sponsor you to stay in the USA for a work based green card, you’ll have to resign. I am an RN in New York. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help.

First off, your OPT visa needs to be valid. That is after you pass the NCLEX. Then, you can start looking for openings, however, it would be best to enroll in a BSN program because it won't be easy to find a position with an associate degree. Due to the fact that every health system in NY right now is trying to get magnet designation. I wish you success in your, soon to be, new nursing career.

You will need a BSN to get your pick of specialty

I believe you can take the board exam with self prep. Once you get your RN license, you can apply for a job. I have a friend who was a nurse outside US and passed his license and hired.

Good luck!

Are you going to be graduating in the US with your associate degree? Check to see if there is any hospitals that are willing to sponsor you in order to obtain a work visa.
