Is there age discrimination in nursing? I am in my 50's and want to start nursing school. Will I be able to find a job after graduation as a new nurse?

I graduated nursing school a month before my 60th bday. Passed my boards a month after my birthday. There is age discrimination. You may not get the job you want but you will be able to find employment.
But to move on and get the jobs you want will depend more on your work ethic. Other then the time i had original covid, I've only called out once in 8 yrs of nursing.
Good luck.

I would not answer that there us discrimination rather more adjustment for the person embarking on nursing as a second career. You will likely have preceptor that will be younger than you. Be open to gain new knowledge and skills.
You are not expected to know everything in nursing as a new graduate despite your age. Diverse ages, backgrounds and sexual orientation bring great attributes to the team. Young nurses have provided me with great keyboard suggestions when charting!

I wouldn't call it discrimination exactly but it's pretty difficult to communicate at times with younger staff
I worked in a hospital setting from age 23 to age 61 I think the newer staff had a different way of seeing things
I'm Sure you can find a job though there are many different places a nurse can work

Yes, you will find a job anywhere. Try to start at teaching facilities. And, choose a specialty that doesn’t require little to no lifting . If you choose med Surg for the experience, you will lift but most non-profit hospitals have all type of lifting aids. Work in that area for one year to get a solid foundation of experience and then transfer to surgical. Particularly, Postoperative. You can find quite a few jobs with no weekends and array of shifts. You will have to take call sometime but you will have holidays off. Good luck and congratulations.
