What are other options for an ER nurse with 1 year experience? I love to tx medical pt. My last ER had many aggressive psych pts & security took 10 mins to arrive. I was burnt out. I declined other ERs b/c of similar work conditions & lack of pay.
Absolutely you have many options!! I started my 20 year nursing career in the ER also. At one year I dropped to part time and picked up a per diem position at a local urgent care. I went on to outpatient PaCU, an ophthalmologist center that specialized in eye surgery and then had a Gastroenterologist use the facility for colonoscopies and EGD’s. With moderate sedation experience you have more opportunity to work with other specialists. I also picked up hours with our International Radiology and Special Procedures department. I worked with the IR doctors providing admission/sedation/recovery for patients having biopsies (lung, liver, kidney), portacath placement, filter placement, etc. I would assist with bronchodcopies for the Pulmonologists. From thete I was asked to cross train as a cirvulation RN for the outpatient surgery center. Currently I am working as a clinical instructor for an LVN program amd will take on a theory instructor position. I also assist with a Hospice company as a per diem admission nurse when I am available. So I hope I helped you see how one year of experience can launch your career into many different areas of nursing. I also took advantage of my employer’s tuitions reimbursement program and got my BSN then MSN online with Western Governors University. My best to you!!
I would advise her/him to take a vacation time.
My advice to you is spend at least 3 years on a med/surg floor to ĺearn everything you can about people, pathology, and process....I have been an ER nurse, trauma nurse, combat trauma nurse for 33 years......for the love of God you did not come from the new grad womb knowing seriously....ANYTHING.....Please go back and learn what it is and means to take CARE of people...
And as far as "lack of pay".....suck it up buttercup.............it took me 33 years to even remotely earn my worth.
