What should I move to if I eventually want to leave bedside? Currently work an hour from home. I've looked at education and informatics. I don't think my BSN GPA would be enough to get my NP. (2.9/4.0)

Never say never. Ask your self, are you a good nurse, has anyone asked you what your GPA was when you got the job? Why are you doubting yourself. Go to a school counselor. Talk to them. Ask questions. That is there job to help you get where you want to be. I have been a nurse for 44 years. I have had some many people tell me NO, so screw them and I did do it.
I should have gone on for my NP, I would have made a great one. Don’t hold your self back, Get out there and shadow someone in an office. Ask an NP on the unit if you can come to the office and shadow.
NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

You know what you should assess all the life struggles that you are experiencing. You are awesome for bedside care as we kick but! Look at the other side of this, all the years of your bedside nursing will come to you as you are in school, and you can always do a JCC program for the prerequisite and go from there

Hi.
I have an MSN / informatics. I would recommend that if you pursue the nurse educator path, you look at clinical nurse specialist as the degree end point. If you really like informatics, then review the computer courses offered by the university. This is an area I wish I had reviewed a little better, as the informatics piece was only 3 courses, and they were difficult in a master's program with little academic preparation. My exposure to and love for informatics came from employment opportunities involved in the implementation of EHRs in long-term care and home health companies.

I currently work as a nurse educator focused on NCLEX preparation for an international nurse recruiting agency, which is an awesome role. But nurse educator roles do mostly want to see experience and certification in specific specialties (diabetes, cardiovascular, respiratory, etc.)

I hope this helps

I am not sure there is a number on how many years at the bedside will equate to "experience." As long as you are willing to learn I am sure a mentor can assist you with transferring from the bedside to another area of nursing. Talk with recruiters/ hospitals, outpatient facilities etc. for options. There are so many choices. Be open for a new discovery and fulfilment that meets your goals of distance as well as salary. Be open to a position that keeps you growing in your knowledge of nursing. You can impact patient care in many different ways! Good Luck in your search and remember to look at opportunities before deciding :)
