I’m finding it pretty hard to get a job right out of nursing school. I’m interested in become a NICU nurse. Any tips on how to get there?

If you are a brand new nurse, you need experience in med-surg, at least 18 months to 2 yrs, the pediatrics, then move toward Er or ICU. You learn valuable experiences in all these areas which will be invaluable when you move to NICU. No one can start at the top of the pile until they get some important experience.

I remember when I would say they won’t hire me without experience but I can’t get experience because they won’t hire me. I felt so defeated but get experience in another area and they will see how great your work is and you’ll get that dream job

Don’t give up. You don’t have to start in med-Surg. Keep applying to where you want to work. Focus also on getting certifications that would set you apart from other applicants, like NRP and PALS. I got my dream specialty straight out of school and you can do it too!
