Hi I will be moving to Illinois soon and they are not a compact state yet so for those who have had to endorse their license what’s the best way and which is better to do first get the license or apply for jobs? Thanks!
I would advise to get the license first. That way you will be prepared to take the offer and the employer possibly could reimburse for the license.
Apply with the state to become licensed by endorsement. Once you have your license, apply for jobs. With most candidate searches being online now, there is a high probability that if you answer honestly “No” to “Do you have an active IL RN license?” your electronic application will not make the first cut and will never be seen by human eyeballs. And you never ever want to lie on an application or in an interview so doing the steps in the correct order is super important.
Apply for the license and then look for jobs and let them know your license is pending, that way you can go to work when you get the license.
You have to be licensed before you get a job!
Standby, the nursing board is a pain in the ass! I have wrote complaints to the governor of Illinois. They are slow and rude! For some strange reason nurses are treated like dirt in Illinois! It is strange.
I got mine pretty fast (approx 5weeks) but you must also apply for the temporary license. I would start both processes at the same time. I wouldn't delay the job search for the license because the employers will understand that the process can be lengthy and often just give a pending start date of offered.
I applied back in beginning of April and still waiting for my illinois endorsement license to be approved and subsequently needed to take a job in Indiana for the time being as I moved in beginning of may and needed to go back to work. Depending on what part of illinois you will be in there are options of other nearby states that are compact, but I would def apply for the license first!
Apply for Illinois License first and then apply for jobs.
Doing things with the state of Illinois nursing g board takes a while compared to other states! This is just my experience but get started quickly, their turnaround time is long.
