What is the best way to transition from home health RN to other specialties without any hospital experience?
I suggest you start first with getting hired on by a contract agency that sends staff to hospitals that need med/surg nurses (now referred to as acute care). Many contract agencies will assist and orient you to help bridge you from Home Health to Acute Care (and will pay you as they orient you).
Build on your skills, IV starts, flexibility, Independance, and consider certification.
Research the area you are applying for. Many of the skills used in home health are the same as hospital setting. Example: patient assessment-medication reconciliation-vital signs-wound care-medical history-discharge planning-suture and staple removal-lab draws-etc. Knowledge of EHR even if different format is helpful.
For the effective working and knowing about the profession specialty is the most important thing to the health department.
