Can anyone tell me about OR nursing and why there seems to be such a shortage? Currently a medsurg nurse looking to try something new. I eventually want to do women’s health

I worked in the OR for 40 years. Just retired from a major medical center.
It takes about one year to train someone without experience.
There’s been a nursing shortage since the 80’s but even more so now as many nurses my age retiring. It’s difficult to find an OR job without experience. The hospital I worked at preferred travelers rather than train someone. I would suggest trying to see if you can find a job in an outpatient surgery center or a community hospital. I loved the OR as all OR nurses do.
Also an added bonus is that the OR is treated as a separate area in the hospital where you aren’t under the multitude of nursing administrators. Best of luck!
