How is working in the hospital like compared to working in a nursing home or a rehab facility? Is it more stressful in the hospital or rehab and nursing homes?
Rehab & Nursing home worse.
More patients less help.
Management does not help bedside nurses at all.
Hospital more stressful
It’s 10X harder working in a nursing home or skilled nursing because the nurse/patient ratio is too high for Licensed Nurses and CNAs.
Hi there! I have worked in rehab. hospitals as well as acute hospitals. It depends a lot on what position you are trying transition to in a hospital. If you are looking at a Med-Surg floor, it will be busy, but you already deal with a lot of the same things at a rehab. If you want to start ICU, ER, higher level acuity and therefore sicker partients then yes it will be different. You have to find out what makes happiest; and there isnt a magic wand on that one sorry lol, other than to just do it. You may find you really love and thrive in the hospital. Think about if you have a specialty (or a few) that you always have felt drawn to, or when you find more out about the unit it makes you go “Oh, that sounds awesome!” Every day, every place, no matter is going to have ups and downs. The sky is the limit to exploring and seeing what you like! Best of luck!
The hospital is horrible! I am afraid to get sick and the employees should be also! As horrible as the care is. The senior staff, management is a joke! The staff is not very helpful to the new staff. Possibly due to the fact that charge is sometimes charge and working a group also, therefore charge is busy when the new staff needs assistance. Ask another nurse that has been working there for years how to print blood administration guide, she does not know. Ask another nurse to explain how or to walk you through the process, she’s busy, call hose she is busy. Long story short. I couldn’t even get the help I was asking for, a patient that didn’t need the blood that the doctor ordered was given a unit of blood. To come find out the whole time it was one of the other nurses that is charge at times who wasn’t willing to assist me when asked! Just sad, you think they gave
me a med error! Hell no because they would have to tag the Dr for a med error as well he or she wrote the error to be administered! The covered the Dr so no one accepted the accountability! I gave my two weeks notice! I take pride in my work! Praying for the healthcare system in Illinois! Healthcare sucks, the worst I have seen in 29 years! Just sad everyone is in healthcare for a paycheck some just there for a free paycheck!!! Literally some nurses ain’t even passing the meds, CNAs working and touching the patients once a shift, management cooking the books! Just sad!!!!
