Would working in a SNF hurt my chances of trying to get into a hospital or should I just keep applying to new grad residency programs?
SNF's are lead by LPN's, not great for RN BSN. You need hospital experience! Do a hospital residency. Apply to med/surg night shift to get in easier, will not be able to get day shift
Being employed means that you are gaining experience. Whether that’s in SNF, or hospice or LTC… The skills that you are acquiring will be valuable and able to be built upon at a later time. If anything having a job will allow you to get past the new grad perception from another employer. Use that time and experience to learn everything you can while continuing to apply for new grad programs that truly speak to you it will pay off in the end.
Heyy. Not sure if you figured out your job situation yet but I am in a similar problem as you are. I decided to take the SNF job as it pays pretty good and I want to take this as an opportunity to get my skills down as well. My goal is to highlight my critical thinking and nursing skills to hospitals in my area so that I can at least get a med surg position and get bedside experience from that. That’s my plan for now so I’m hoping in 6 months to a year I can get into a hospital.
