* Occupational Health / Work wellness & safety - work with employers to provide pre-employment physicals, create safe work environments and prevent repetitive motion injuries. The nurse will also help case manage employee injuries.
*Health Insurance companies - there are numerous positions for nurses working with health insurances. Wellness Nurse: many health insurance companies are trying to shift focus from disease management to wellness improvement & maintenance. The nurse guides members with chronic conditions to wellness focused services and wellness habits to improve health and avoid more costly care. (After a surgery, my insurance company wellness nurse helped me quite a bit. Funny how I had forgotten some basic things when I was the patient.) Nurses also work in Quality monitoring and Care Navigation.
*Commercial pharmacy quick clinics - The nurse help triage minor health issues in a 'walk-in' clinic environment. They also participate in community health initiatives like vaccinations.
* School Nurse - work with children in the school system.
*Your Department of Public Health - there are numerous positions in DPH for nurses that focus on community health initiatives.
