I’m in Philadelphia. Any tips to get my foot in a med spa? I want to switch to do injections but all jobs require experience

Also from Philadelphia, and had similar interests. Its difficult because you have to find someone who is willing to train you. Id say start networking as much as you can with people already in the field, express your interest to anyone in the field you can. I really feel like it's about networking and some luck. I thought about going back for NP and specializing in dermatology trying to get in that way, but was not ready to commit to more school. They have injectable courses but they are costly and.most med spas don't even look at that towards experience.

I am in the same boat. I did go the extra step and paid to get my certifications in Botox and Dermal Filler and I’ve been a nurse for 9.5 years and am still having a hard time myself!

I don't know anything about med spas but, I've been travel for about 5 years so what I can tell you is, most anything specialized to any degree wants at least a year work experience. I recommend working at a hospital or physician office for a year. You can find nice, respectful, friendly med/surg units in small community hospitals that always need help. Just knock it out and you'll be good. You'll have had to place IVs, do assessments, document, learn to communicate properly. That RN credential will actually mean something then. You don't need to be an expert. But most everyone wants to know that you know what you're doing to a basic degree before they hire you. I guess I'd suggest you ask yourself, would you hire you right now? School gets you the license. But clinicals don't mean anything to an employer. This is of course generalizing stuff but that's the basic idea as I see it (I've never hired anyone before LOL). Good luck!
