Only if someone else is there to monitor the patient. The NST is monitoring the fetus and an assessment needs to be done.

Depends on where the MA is practicing. In OR and WA state MAs hook up patients to NST's all the time. After 20 minutes the strip is reviewed by a provider and they make the decision whether the NST is reactive or not.

No. Once the patient is on the monitor we are liable for what is happening with the fetus. An RN needs to hook up the patient & make sure they have fetal heart tones and not maternal and then immediately start assessing fetal status.
