How does one find an RN refresher course? I am a 30 year veteran, ICU & OR, but have been out of work for the last 5 years. Some folks are saying that I need a refresher…opinions?
Your state board of nursing website should have recommended RN refresher courses that you can reach out to and take. I did mine online and also a RN Preceptorship (144 hours-basically my clinicals again) at the local hospital.
My opinion is that it shows that you are dedicated to doing a refresh and enter the clinical field again, but if you have friends in the field, I would certainly reach out to them and see if they can place in a good word for you and let you know if any positions to apply for. In the meantime, you can make sure that you meet most of the criteria for the specific career you are looking for. Home health, hospice, corrections, and SNFs are generally very open to hiring.
If you’re not interested in hands on nursing, then I think a refresher is unnecessary. Examples being informatics, insurance, etc.
I wish you the best of luck!! 🤞🏼 I have been on an uphill battle with trying to enter the clinical field myself.
It will depend on how your state board regulates that.
RN Refresher course are sometimes listed on the Board of Nursing site. Also google RN refresher. Some Colleges offer. Blessings
I live in Massachusetts. I believe that Northeasten University used to have a 13 week refresher courses. I we t on Goggle. They recommend contacting you nursing board. I know in Massachusetts the MNA is a great resource so check with your state nurses association.
It depends on whether or not you want remote or in person
I recommend contacting g the human resources department where you are interested in working and ask if they prefer you get a refresher course. They may recommend a program.
Hope that helps
