How do you handle parents who are anxious or worried about their child's health?

December 20th, 2024

Be truthful & strait to the point, but in a kind & understanding way. If u feel they are unhappy about something, I always kinda flip it on the pt or the parent, whoever seems to be unsatisfied & just ask "what is it that I can do to get you to a place where you are comfortable & satisfied? And ask if they have any questions about anything once u are done talking to them. Remember, sometimes ur never gonna get the reaction you are looking for not necessarily because you aren't doing a good job, but because they are freaking stressed out & worried about their child. Try not to take negative behavior personally. That's my 2 cents, i hope it helps you. I do hospice so I have alot of experience with the tough conversations. Good luck!
