Have you ever felt that a patient's socio-economic status influenced the quality of care they received? How did you address this issue?
As a patient myself, I can say YES. I compared the treatment before and after being a Medicaid recipient. Just like Viola Davis said, being poor makes you invisible. Sadly, people who work at the hospital, with the same or below socio-economic status will judge you and act as if they're above you, and not honor/respect your dignity. Thankfully, I only used Medicaid when I first move here. As soon as I started working with the government, I had private insurance and a more sophisticated title. The same employees didn't know how to act or how to treat me. I remember, I was given iced water when I mentioned I was going across the street to buy water just in case they called me. In a past appt, I had to cross the street to buy a bottle of water - of course, I was in Medicaid.
