I’m a new grad nurse and I wanted to ask how the first month of nursing is?

November 14th, 2024

A ton of growing and learning with many tears (happy, sad, and stressed). The first year entailed a lot of ups and downs and doubts, at first, but at the end of the day you remember why you started nursing in the first place. It’s stressful because you are starting off fresh (even if you were a CNA before), this is due to all of the charting, different types of patients, on top of learning your specialty. My advice is to link up with someone on your unit / cohort and have debriefing sessions together after work in the early months of starting off. That is what truly helped me, like a reassurance that I wasn’t alone. Frankly most nurses understand the first year struggle, but find a nurse who you truly trust when wanting to debrief and wind down from a shift. I hope this helps! Goodluck! You got this!
